01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Opening the menu reveals an extensive lineup that ranges from seasonal seafood dishes to unpretentious izakaya fare, giving diners plenty of choices. Located on the ground floor of a building near Funabori Station, izakaya Teradaya has earned a loyal following for its fish dishes built around daily market selections, including generously thick-cut assorted sashimi.
From Fresh Sashimi to Simmered and Grilled Fish
For a starting course, the raw fish options feature choices such as medium-fatty tuna (chutoro), sea bream, amberjack (kanpachi), and thread-sail filefish (kawahagi), offering different seasonal catches throughout the year. Cooked seafood selections are just as diverse, featuring simmered dishes like gently braised gindara (black cod) or red rockfish, alongside fragrant grilled staples such as winter mackerel and Shima atka mackerel.
The menu extends well beyond seafood with a broad selection of handmade small plates and bar snacks. Generously portioned, freshly rolled thick omelets (atsuyaki tamago) and piping-hot fried satsuma-age fish cakes appear alongside hearty comfort items like stewed hamburg steak and chili shrimp. To wrap up a meal, satisfying noodle plates such as yakisoba with meat, yakiudon with meat, and Japanese-style Neapolitan pasta can accommodate whatever appetite remains.
Selected Drinks and a Welcoming Setting
Drink options to complement the food include sakes such as Hakkaisan, Ichinokura, and Kubota, as well as Amami brown sugar shochu Shimacchu Denzo and various shochu highballs. Appointed with counter seating and raised tatami dining areas, the relaxed dining room suits a quiet evening drink alone just as well as a casual meal shared with good company.
